The difference between sitting with your foot on the brake and sitting there with your foot off is that off the brake, you have no brake lights on. Brake lights serv two purposes: First, morons drive slushboxes almost exclusively (the converse is not universally true, so don't bitch at me Eileen). Many don't realize a car can be stopped if its brake lights are not on, so they just blunder into the back of you. Secondly they call attention to your vehicle. When stopped, especially in a location where I would otherwise normally be moving, I always sit with my foot on the brake and am very relieved when more stopped vehicles congregate behind me.
The Z3 has an additional problem in that it is both narrower and lower than other vehicles. This gives the perception that a Z3 is farther away than other, larger vehicles.
