To expand on surfer00's explination, there is a switch in the ignition tumbler that detects if the key is in the ignition. If this switch gets dirty, it will stick. The dirt usually comes from the key itself.

First look at the key. If it is dirty, clean off all the dirt. A tooth brush and some WD40 will work great.

Then, spray the key with just a little WD40. Don't use too much...just enough to coat the key. You should not see any dripping off. Then insert the key into the ignition and pull it out. A few times putting it in and out and the switch that detects that the key is in the ignition should free up and the beeping will stop

My wife just came back from about a 3 hour trip in her 3.0.
The car won't stop beeping when a door is open. I checked the headlights and every other feature I could think of and it just keeps beeping. When I shut the door or start the engine, it stops. I did a quick check thru the owner's manual and found nothing. Then it dawned on me - ask the experts! Any suggestions would be great appreciated.
