Friday was also the first time my kids saw the cars and the first time they saw the roadster. Both were real taken by it.
Yesterdays activities before going to see Osmosis Jones (with the kids) focused around going to the hobby shop to buy some miscelaneous building supplies.
After coming home from the movie, I sat down and trimmed lexan from the bodyshell ( 2 to be exact the Z and an Audi A4). After the shells were free from excess lexan, I smoothed out the scissor cuts (used lexan scissors) with my dremel tool.
Todays fun revoleved around helping my son build his first plastic model kit, a tamiya tank. Seems seeing the Tamiya roadster inspired him and now besides wanting to build all kits that I have in storage, culminating with his desire to buy and build an RC tank.
During building breaks( the smell of glue and melted ABS plastic is so GREAT- :( )I worked on preparing the bodyshells for painting. MAsked all window areas and prepared the Z for soft top painting by masking off all surrounding areas. Painted the top "in" followed by removal of excess masking stuff several hours later.
The body is now ready for major painting.
Also painted the spare set of roadster wheels with a buffable metallic paint. Looks cool and looks MUCh better than unpainted wheels.
Tommorrow night the painting of the Z will be completed, followed by a road test on tuesday. The Audi shell will be complete by the end of the week and the car ready to run after 2 years of storage.
After nearly 3-4 hours of building, my sons model is nearly complete, minor small items (gear) have to be glued to this tank. Save all the fingertip marks and areas where judicoius qty of glue was used for very small parts, his first model turned out much, much better than my first plastic model. Not too shaby for an 8 year old.
Now to some real work - the continuing never ending project of the painting of my laundry room.
