I have a strange problem: when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, at the moment I press the clutch I hear rattling noise, which sounds like something going back and forth, gradually fading away as I hold the clutch down. Any idea what causes this? The service department at Santa Monica BMW said that they don't hear any abnormal noise, but I'm sure there IS something wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated.

to side play, if so it could be the bushing in the pedal itself, notorious for wear.
