I have had a Valentine One since they came out with a laser model, perhaps 1994 or so when they were first introduced. It has been without a doubt, the finest radar detector I have ever had. I have also used, Escort and Passport units, including the cordless (read worthless) Passport model. Through the last near decade, my V1 has been a reliable piece of technology. Long ago, the forward facing arrow burned out but the unit still detected radar from the front and alerted me with an audible signal.
About five years ago, I looked into an upgrade for my V1, to bring it up to the latest model. The price at that time was roughly $250.00. No way, I thought. After all, I had paid nearly $400.00 for the new unit. I waited, and waited and waited. Tonight I ordered the upgrade for just under $300.00 including 2-day shipping costs. Valentine is going to ship me a brand new V1 in return for my old one.
Think of it, how much ELECTRONIC equipment do you have that is almost 10 years old, and has retained 25% of it's original value? A cell phone, no, a CD player, no, a stereo, no, a computer, ha... NOTHING, that I can think of for that matter.
So to Mike Valentine...Thanks for keeping the value of your products high. The new ones are expensive, yes, but they are worth every penny. My order is on it's way and I can't wait to get my new V1.
What a bargain.

I had a first model V1, and dropped it in June. I couldn't decide if I want to get it fixed or buy a new one with Laser.
I bought a new one.
I have noticed, that the X-band is slower as well as the arrows pointing the direction of the radar/laser hit.
But still reliable.
