I usally get into these things and get trampled by my mis-understanding, but what the hell.

The TT is a victim of trailing throttle oversteer. Go into a corner and let off the throttle. Most front wheel drive cars, and many rear wheel drive cars will "tighten up" or go into an oversteer mode when you do this. Where the front wheels grip better due to the weight shift towards the front. Next thing you know, the back end passes the front end. Not a good control thing at 120.

I had a front drive car chase me down the mountain in the Smoky Mtns. a few years back. We came up on traffic in the middle of the "loop", a 360 degree loop in the highway. When he lifted, at about 45 mph, he did an extra loop himself. Fortunately my e-30 had no problem. (same basic rear set-up as the coupe)

Due to this, automotive designers design in oversteer. it is safer for the front wheels to slide off the road than to have the ass end leave first. (I heard it rumored that Mercedes designed in understeer so they would not have to make the back end of the car as strong as the front end in an impact. Surely an urban legend.)

Adding downforce at high speeds helps lessen TTO (trailing throttle oversteer, a little irony in the acronym, don't you think?). Keep the rear wheels planted!

Don't lift in the corners!!!

OK, let me have it guys.

Dan

: i don't know the situation
