LA CCA - Newbie - Please help! (archive)

Just owning a '00 M Coupe (almost got 400mi on it), I decided to join BMW CCA, and specifically the Los Angeles CCA since I live in LA. I just became a member of the BMW CCA.
My goal is to participate in different social/driving events that take place here. Problem is, I am a complete newbie on these matters. I've checked the bmwcca and lacca websites, but the information there is not always geared towards newbies.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction, and provide me tips on what to do next? My weekends have been quite dead for a while so I'd love to have more excitement in my life ;-)
