We'll I finally got my own M Coupe. Picked it (in Austin) up yesterday (fairly high miles, but seems to be in great shape overall). I have already put over three hundred miles on it mostly in Teas hill country.I have one more day on the Texas coast visiting a friend that looked at the car with me, and I head back to New Orleans (home) for Mardi Gras. What a nice break from work.
Man, I can't believe how incredible this car drives. I have had a few early 911's (1977 was the lastest model I owned) and they were not nearly as much fun or as easily controlable as the M Coupe. And, as much "social ingredient" as 911's have, if initial indications are indicative, the Coupe has even more.
The car does have a few issues that need to be addressed, but the price was right. There is wind noise coming from the drivers door. The service record (I had the local dealer, Peake BMW print it for me - they were very helpful) showed that the door seal had been replaced once already for driver's door wind noise. Is this a common problem? I don't remember seeing it mentioned here before, but I have only been reading the posts regularly for a couple of months. Is it easily repaired?
The car needs tires and three of the wheels have varying degreess of curb rash. I still have my old car and am currently planning on ordering tires and sending the wheels off to be repaired. (It is really going to be difficult to part with the car for a few days at this point in time, but you have to do what you have to do.) Does anyone here know of any good shops that can properly
repair the powder coat wheels? Also, any advice on tires. I would like to get larger size. What are the largest sizes that can be put front and back (Probably in the archives, any recent experiences?).
One other thing, I can't find the luggage net. The last (second) owner was not aware that there was one. Does the net come standard on M Coupe, and is there some place where it is normally stored? Thanks for any help in advance.
