I believe the sticky black stuff is known as butyl tape. I bought a roll at the Volvo dealer for my Volvo.

It's basically the same thing - soft sticky caulk with an internal thread to help keep it together and manageable, but it's still easy to make a mess with and a PITA to clean up. I've used it to resecure the vapor barrier on my Bimmer.

On the Volvo, it's used to hold a external grille panel in the cowl. After the grille fell off, I tried lots of other adhesives, but found the original tape was the only thing that worked, so I broke down and bought the roll.

If you want the p/n, let me know.
