: : I forgot all about this. Anyway, BMWNA called a couple of weeks ago in reference to my drivers side heated door lock post. They confirmed that my car does not have one, even though the window sticker says that it does. I didn't realize this until someone asked, knowing that I took my doors apart. They would not make a blanket statement that this applies to all Z3's since they just checked for my car. My guess is that your car doesn't have one too.
: : So if coming out out of the East Hartford, CT motor mill at midnight, and you can't get your door open, you now know why.
: : If you ever take your doors apart, there is a ~1/8 inch foam sound insulation piece that covers the inside door sheetmetal. It is held in place by a black taffy like unhardened caulk. Contacting several BMW dealers and the factory for a part number, I never obtained an answer for what this stuff is. The factory contact said that he would get back to me. If he made an effort to do so, me or my answering machine missed it.
: : I'm not surprised that the dealers didn't know, but I would think that the factory would.
