the current euro engine is quite different from the next us motor, afaik. parts/service would not be easy. nor would it be easy to import (doable, but expensive and full of hassles).

sun international has brought in a few elises that are currently registered for road use with no restrictions - the company was not keen to elaborate on how that was done ;) their current program to fit the car with a honda vtec engine is moving along, and they are aiming for full certification and compliance - just e-mail them from their site (sunspeed.com). i have considered waiting for that car, but decided to get a sport 190 directly from lotus instead (picking it up mid-april). i just want it as a track/autocross toy anyway. driving it on the street is full of hassless and worries that takes much of the joy out of it, imho. a guy here that owns one was run off the road by some self-righteous idiot the first day he had the car. 2 months in the shop, $25K+ of damage....

fwiw, my advice is in the US stick with a 'standard' car if you are going to drive it on the street - unless you want to pay dearly in money, worries and hassle for the privilege of being different. just an opinion, of course ;)

happy motoring!
