The route I take is usually Milpitas-San Jose as I'm very familiar with this route.

Take 680 South/North
Exit Calaveras Road East
Continue on Calaveras road, pass Park Victoria and continue straight
Calaveras becomes Old Calaveras Road
Follow this road through and it will eventually turn into Sierra road dropping you off in San Jose. To get back to the beginning, continue down Sierra Road
Right turn on Morril Avenue
Left turn Hostetter
Right Capitol, get on 680 North


To start in San Jose, just follow the directions above backwards (well, you can figure it out)..

In my opinion, the route from San Jose-Milpitas is more difficult.
