What are you trying to prove? There are plenty of 2.8 Coupe owners on this board, and we are just as enthusiastic about our cars as //M owners. If you really want a serious answer to your question, I got my 2.8 in '99 for under $32k, which is about $8k less than the going rate for an //M. Even ignoring the fact that I love my car for what it is, which I don't think I can debate with you, the //M at the time was totally not possible for me. So you tell me, what else is there in the low 30s, street price, that better suits my needs than the coupe? I could have gotten raped on a 323Ci or an S2000 for mid to high 30s, but I took my car home the day I signed the papers and it has been nothing but a joy since. With cars like the RX7 no longer available, it's not such a bad choice. And I think all of us here have grown to like the look. So really, take it easy on your brothers and share some love!:) To wit:
-It may not be as fast as an //M, but it is a real BMW: Sounds great, great steering feel, great brakes, balanced handling.
-It's just a tad more low-key than the M, which isn't always bad to all people.
-If you happen to autocross, I think the 2.8 coupe is much more competitive in A Stock competing against the S2000 and Boxster 2.7l than the //M is in Super Stock against new 911s and Corvette Grand Sports.
: Alright, seriously. Who in their right mind would purchase a z3 2.8 coupe? In my opinion, you should either pay the extra money for the M Coupe, or get something else. The Z3 lacks a lot of what makes the M Coupe special. No dual-dual exhaust. No flared out back. No dual-toned interior. Certainly not the nice rims. I think my view is pretty supported looking at the fact that I have never seen a z3 coupe on the road once, and I think under a thousand have been produced.
: The M Coupe needs to do little to remind everyday how amazing it is. Sure, the z3 2.8 coupe's handling is probably almost as good, but without the defining M characteristics, it looks just like some modified hatchback thats ugly as hell.
: Am I by myself on my viewpoint, or does anyone else agree?
