BMW's stats say that it is to close to call which version is faster over the range of 0 to ~60mph. (There may be a real difference in time to distance, but we only have time to speed numbers to look at...)

: After the US version car has to shift to third gear it's all over. The Euro spec car has a few percent longer final drive and a few hundred more engine rpms to work with.

: I agree that with the new engine in the 2001 cars, doing a transplant of the euro motor would be frivolous.
