There was a discussion about a year ago on the E36Digest about which filter protects the engine better and if I remember right it was the stock paper filter. Jim C added comments to the discussion that he was in the development process of making this intake system and had found a filter that protected as well or almost as well as stock and flowed better that stock. The K&N filter during the discussion was ruled out as not projecting the engine as well as stock nor the filter that Jim C had found, which we now know as the ITG filter, nor did it flow as well as the ITG.
