BMW's Remedy for Oil Consumption in "M" Cars! (archive)

I am told that BMW sent out a bulletin to all dealers stating that the BMW labeled 5W40 synthetic oil would be changed to 15W40. The reason for the change is because of excessive oil consumption in all their M powered cars.

My dealer (Flow BMW - Winston-Salem, NC) has about a week supply of the 5W40 oil left in stock. The new oil will be made for BMW by Castrol and labeled as a BMW product. Dealers should be receiving shipments of the new weight (15W40) oil very soon.
