I seem to recall that Mark Sipe (who knows these things) said that the published weight is a bit on the high side & that "true" weight (i.e. measured on good scales in prepping a car for auto-x) was closer to 3000lbs even. search the archives to see if you can find his numbers or email him.

also, keep in mind that car makers may have different procedures for published weights, as Rick Kim wondered about.

look in some car magazine review to see what wort of numbers they cam up with as they (usually) weigh the cars on their own.
