An M Roadster driver named John Freeman is leading a caravan from San Diego to Bimmerfest. He asked if his caravan could meet up with the Los Angeles caravan, which I proposed to lead. From LA, the 2 caravans would join together at Balboa Park in Encino and go the rest of the distance to Santa Barbara. The more the merrier I say. This message is pieced together from an email from John with my comments/edits added. If you would like to join either convoy, please read this message carefully. You don't have to RSVP to either John or myself if you don't want to, but you do have to be on time.
Here are the particulars:
The San Diego Convoy will LEAVE from the Starbuck's in La Jolla Village Square at 6:00a.m. SHARP on April 29th (Saturday). It is right off the 5 freeway, next to Ralph's, the address is:
657 Villa La Jolla Drive
La Jolla CA 92037
We will start gathering at 5:30am. The route that we are planning will be as follows: 5 North to 405 North to 101 West (Ventura). Exit Balboa and make a right. Go north on Balboa. After you cross Burbank Ave, there will be a small parking lot on the left hand side of the road. We will meet there. ETA at park will be 7:45am and then leaving at approx. 8:00am The address for the park is:
17015 Burbank Blvd
Encino, CA 91316
The Los Angeles Caravan will be leaving with the San Diego caravan from Balboa Park (see parking lot location described above). I propose we (LA people) meet at the park at 7:15am on Saturday the 29th. This will give us time to get organized, get fuel, and get acquainted before the SD caravan shows up. John and I both have cell phones to communicate. After the SD Caravan shows up at Balboa Park, we will wait until 8:00am or 15 minutes (whichever is later) and then we will leave for SB.
It is approx. 80 miles from Balboa Park to Santa Barbara.
Once we're in Santa Barbara, exit Hope Ave towards La Cubmre road, merge into South Hope road and Cutter Motors will be on your left. The address is 402 South Hope Avenue. If everything works accoding to plan and we all follow posted speed limits, the caravans should roll into Cutter at about 9:30am. Hopefully sooner.
John Freeman's email address is: whatshisname@hotmail.com
My email address is: vbyuan@earthlink.net
We will be using Motorola Talkabouts to communicate during the drive. If you have one (or two) bring them with you. If you want one, you can get them cheap on EBay all the time.
I am by no means a proud person, so if you have suggestions to make this work better, please let me or John know and we'll do it.
