this is a hot debate over in the not so friendly, poseur-rich e46m3 board.

the new m3 is a pig. it has twin dual exhaust pipes similar to our m coupes, too. but look under the car....what do you see? a singular muffler spouting the four pipes. poseur-ish. look, i'm sure it has it's airflow value, but it also speaks of "image image image".

when i complained about the 3400 pound curb weight over there, some wiseguy's response was: "well, most m3's never go to the track anyway". someone else had written probably one of the best things: that the engine power at the cost of peakiness was this big marketing thing. just to have the most specific hp.

yuck. at least when people write that the s2000 is peaky, that only weighs 2800 pounds. we're talking a full 600 pound difference here. does it not seem that the "new" bmw is a little insensitive to the weight issue? the new m5. 4000lbs. the new z8. 3500 pounds. these are not cars that adhere to the colin chapman (foudner of lotus) principle of engineering lighter weight into the car.
