HP to KW and Ft/Lbs to NM conversions (archive)

If you visit the German sites, and some others from Europe (for all us yanks anyway), the units of emasure are all screwy. But, hey, maybe you want to know what the Hp is of the 3.0i Coupe, and the only site available is German.... Here's how to make real numbers out of their tech spex:

1 HP = 746 Watts, 1KW = 1000 Watts
To get HP from KW: (KW x 1000)/746 = HP

To get to Torque is a bit odd, but here goes. 1 Newton-Meter = 1 Joule. 1 Ftlb/second = .7376 Joules/sec
To get Torque from NM: NM x .7376 = ft.lbs torque

So, the 2000 Euro M 3.2L M motor on the German site makes 236KW and 350NM, or 316.35HP and 258.16 ft.lbs of torque.

The 3.0i Coupe is listed at 170KW and 300NM, or 227.88 hp, and 221.28 ft.lbs of torque.

To get the 0-100 kph number to US mph, multiply K.hr x .6214. In other words 0-100 kph = 0-62.137 mph. This means the 0-100 kph is relatively close to 0-60, +/- 1/10th or two.

Just thought this would be useflul to others who cruise foreign sites trying to grab a little info here and there!
