Cars are an investment in the sense they tie up capitol. They are a very poor investment, as they loose capitol during the entire term of the transaction. If you really wnated to count beans, the cost of capitol for any car should be compared to the absolute minimum cost alternative to achieve the same transportation value (the core purpose of a motor vehicle). Today that might include considering the Honda 79 mpg vehicle as the base and calculating ALL costs above and beyond that as an absorbtion of capitol with no return (won't get you from a to b any more effectively). So, fully half the cost of the M coupe is an immediate loss of opportunity (you are spending money that could be invested elsewhere, or on interest on the higher loan value....)

But guess what? We're not wired to look at things that way, right. We're marketign educated. We buy without really considering the full concequences. I took a course on this, calcualated the loss of opportunities in my life, based on decisions made emotionally (the M coupe for example) vs. the logical choices, from houses to the type of soap we use to wash our clothes with. I was staggered. If I'd been a proper little accountant and made the most frugal decisions with the money we've made, and invested every loose bit o' change... I'd be retired right now, driving nostalgia F1 cars on the weekends, living in a very nice home. Oh well.... I still dig the coupe, and look forward to the next versions of it. Dumb, but fun!
