Light weight does not a great car make. 3300 +/- can be plenty fast - i.e. Corvette, NASCAR race cars, and others... The recent fly-weight cars, like the MR2 and the Honda S200, certainly haven't set the industry on its ear in any performance category, while the real fast cars are all in the 3100+ range (Porsche, BMW. Ferrari, Corvette, etc.....) We're talking door slammers here, not F1 cars. we're also talking bigger cars in general.

Even if I were club racing, I wouldn't feel intimidated by the MR2 Spyder or the S2000, wo who cares what they weigh? They should maybe be looking to what makes Bimmers fast, even at a supposed "weight disadvantage", not the other way around!

: i just opened my newest motortrend magazine and saw first hte newest glossy print ad for the toyota MR2 as well as their first road test of it. impressive little sucker. 138hp (same as base z3 1.9) but 0-60 in 6.6........highlighted by its 2100 curb weight.

: this is fresh in my head because the new m3 will be about 3350 to 3450 pounds (a pig) and our M coupes are already 3100 loaded (with people and gas).

: the point of the ad though was this: they excluded the hardtop contraption because it adds too much weight and weight is the enemy of a good handling car.....BMW, are you listening?

I'd rather have a heavy fast car that looks great, than a light slower car that looks like some modern robotic toad... any day!

: any coupe-heads get that carbon fiber hood yet???!?!?!
