: A heavily modified 5.0 might could beat a stock coupe in the quarter mile but would still lose on a track.

: In My ever so humble opinion......

Depends how you modify it. Go to one of the NorCal Shelby Club open tracks, and you find some streetable, but heavily modified Mustangs that will beat a stock Coupe around almost any track you care to name. I've driven one in particular that is _very_ fast around Thunderhill. With the full Griggs suspension the 'stang actually sorta works.

Guy Cunningham, in a Griggs-equipped mustang and 265hp placed 7th overall at the Virginia City hillclimb last year. Guy is an incredible driver, but he was outrunning Ferraris, Porsches, Ruf CTR2's, Vipers... No Coupes in the standings, but the fastest M3 was 47th.
