I believe money spent on developing a lighter car goes much further than money spent trying to compensate for a heavy car. I.e. if you design it from the begining to be light, you'll spend less trying to make it go fast, hande well, and break well.

I REALLY REALLY want to see BMW start designing lighter cars.
