No argument. That's why I own three of them. ;)
I've owned MR2's, and other lightweight cars. An MR2 after 60,000 miles of hard driving gets a bit soft. At 100,000+ it's ready for the compactor, except the motor, which will be running like new when the car is fed to the crusher. The Miata is light and cheap, and guess what? It feels light and cheap!
Well, I'm sorry to hear MR2's don't hold up as well as Miatas. My oldest Miata has 135k on it, and sure doesn't feel light and cheap to me. (That's why I own three of them) Sure, it doesn't have that teutonic vault feel that the BMWs do, but that feel comes at a steep cost. To be honest, my Miata (roll bar and some extra bracing, granted) doesn't feel all that much "lighter and cheaper" than an M Roadster. (one of the reasons I didn't buy an M Roadster ;) The roll bar made the car much, much tighter, and if I wanted it, I could get that satisfying thunk when you close a door by adding about ten pounds of dynamat to the door skins.
I don't race these cars for a living, I drive them to enjoy the experience and to enjoy the way they feel. Whether or not I could run a few seconds faster here or there, is not worth sacrificing the longevity of the cars feel.
Which is where we agree to disagree. I can't fault your reasoning, I just don't share it. The MCoupe is very nice, but I'd sell it in a heartbeat for an MCoupe LTW. ;)
