However, I forgot to tell the dealer to use dino, on the theory that BMW sez you should leave the from the factory dino in the engine until the first oil change, as dictated by the service indicator lights. The dealer, following the first part of BMW's dictum, changed the oil using their synthetic. My biggest concern was whether or not the engine had adequately broken in.
I now have about 4,000 miles on it. The car has seen a dyno test, an autocross, and two days of driver's school. No oil consumption whatsoever, so I guess all is well.
Should you change at 1200? Absolutely, at least for your own piece of mind. Just make a conscious decision regarding dino vs. synth, at this stage in the engine's life.
