I think I've made clear that most of what makes a BMW special and unique is put to no good use on American roads. For that reason, I use my C5 as my daily driver and use my 540i for the occasional times I need 4 doors.
If acceleration is really the only relevant real-world performance statistic why isn't your daily driver a Vega with a V8 or a Camaro with a blower? Both would be much cheaper and much quicker accelerating stoplight to stoplight than your C5. Did you buy into the Vette mystique and pay significantly for it?
Obviously there is much more than just acceleration times that are considered when buying a car. The overall package of the M Coupe fit my needs better than the Vette. It appears that your needs are more similiar to the American norm, straight line performance is the only advantage I saw that the Vette has over the M Coupe. I however love to drive through twists and turns. I live in an area with lots of lakes primarily because of the fun roads. I prefer road courses and autocrosses over dragstrips, although last week I went to the dragstrip just to see how the coupe would do. Did I pick the best car for me? Yep. And the decision was entirely based on the car's performance in my real-world experience. Marketing had no influence on my buying decision. It appears you are giving marketing more credit than it actually deserves, at least in my case.

PS 2 autocrosses so far this year. Won both and beat 4 or 5 Vette's in the process :) Yep, the M Coupe fits me well.
