The only vette I've encountered on the interstate had to drive crazy (passing on the sholder and cutting people off) just to keep up with me. On the track (AutoX), I've beaten more than have beat me.
Cheaper is just that, cheaper. If you've ever worked on a BMW you know there are few cars engineered so well. There are few cars that are built to last as long.
There is one thing I always remember about cars it's not what you got, but how you use it. I proved this when I chased down Michael Jordan in his Testtarosa(sp?) on the interstate through Chicago, I was driving a stock 1989 Dodge Colt.
In that light I think any focused car owner drives their car where their car shine. When I drove a Fiat X-1/9 I ALWAYS drove back roads. I rarely took it on the interstate, it was boring on the interstate. But on back roads NOTHING could touch me.
When I bought my 1993 325is I was looking at a 62 mile (one way) commute over two bridges. It had to be fast, smooth, reliable and fun. My 1990 Acura Integra GS was not up to it in speed or comfort.
Now with the M Coupe I drive long winding interstates where I can hit 120+ EVERY SINGLE DAY.
I think being a focused BMW owner the Ultimate Driving machine is what you make it. Let's see you can take it to the track, the street, the interstate, backroads, crosscountry and SAMs club. I have yet to see a vette there.
The M Coupe is the Ultimate Driving machine for me.
Final thought Porsche twice the price same performance and half the reliability? What's up with that?
