Although I know a lot of folks (see www.vwvortex.com) that did in fact "cross shop" perhaps you are right and more people should.

The Jetta, as per JD Power is an "entry midsize car", the 3 series an "entry luxury car." Again, what luxury does the 3 have over the Jetta?
: 3. Yes the ///M Coupe has its problems, such as leaky rear windows... but its a limited production car, not a mass-produced car. *Every* car maker has its problems. Even Honda, even Porsche, even BMW, and even VW. The hood on my mom's '99 Integra had to be repainted because it had a flaw in the paint -- Honda didn't clean the acid wash off the hood properly.
That's what I just said.
