The Jetta might be cheaper, but even the top of the line (new) Jetta with the VR6 is VERY softly suspended. You'd at least have to add some extra $$$ to firm it up a bit to get it near the BMW ride and handling. The better comparision would be the Audi A4 with the sport suspension, but then that would be about teh same price.
