Ok real competitors to M Coupe...
Acura NSX - Twice the price
Porsce 911 - Almost twice the price (similarly equipped), reliability???
Honda S2000- Slightly cheaper (after nice dealer markups), Slower, Keychain still says Honda, sound like they are going to explode
SLK?- Um more expensive, slower, but hey it has a nifty top that seems to break down all the time.
Ok I'm not seeing any price/performance competition here are you?
C5 Vette - Faster, add options and dealer markups and boom... same price... or wait more??? Oh as you must know with your 540 everything but wear items are free for the first 3 years. Chevy vs BMW service, No comparison. Plus when I take my Coupe in I still get to show up for dates (with females) in a BMW not a Chevy Cavalier/Prizm/Metro.
PLUS How many new cars are there with tight GT styling? 2... Z3 Coupe and M Coupe. When I drive on the road with Vettes guess who wins in the GAWK factor??? Me. Everybody has seen a C5 Vette. I've met over 12 people this week who had never seen an M Coupe before.
Bottom line, the M/Z3 coupes are tight. You can get better price/performance cars out there... can you say New Beetles, Dodge Neons. That's right do the math. Those cars kill anything else listed above when it comes to that ratio.
Cheaper faster accelerating cars. Friend had '70 Dodge Challenger. After just this week finishing an awesome restore he ended up paying under $20k. He runs mid 11's in the 1/4 mile. Still take my M any day.
Do I push my car? No. Never been above 132MPH on a highway. Drive at least 100 miles a week on mountain twisties smiling as I'm held in check by a great seat listening to my tires squeak around turns.
Cheers,
Pat
