One more swipe at us marketing types and I'm going to have to fire up the flame thrower!

Marketing is not about "maintstream" it's about communication and promotion of the positive aspects of a product/service. Marketing is also about researching the desires and demands of the consumer, and developing product strategies to satisfy the demands consistant with the company's strategic focus. BMW knows marketing better than most, right now. Jeez, you think they support their premium price position on raw performance statistics, price, perfection, inaliable right to a portion of the market? Sorry, doesn't work that way. You think they like spending gobs of money on ever better/faster new models, just to satisfy some internal desire to make a better car? Sorry, wrong again.

The whole concept of making new models that are better, from the 318 to 323, 328 to 330, Z3 to M, 540i to M5, etc... etc... etc... is a marketing strategy first and foremost. You think they mess with the mix of products, develop a "family" look, continuously add new features, and hold "Ultimate driving" events, just for the fun of it? Further, BMW doesn't stick M badges all over the car just for esthetics (21 on the M coupe alone), it's about branding the car! BMW is a brand that was built, by fuflifilling promises made, through marketing, and developing the producst they feel the market will pay their price for.

BMW engines in Williams cars? What, you think the millions spent are for pure research? Sorry, research can be done without the bloody expensive race cars, it's about furthering the brand (BMW) as a producer of high performance. Think about how embarassing it would be for BMW to market itself as the "ultimate driving experience" (marketing slogan by the way), without serious race efforts being pursued. More marketing strategy I'm afraid.

So, lay off the marketing people, we're the ones that direct the companies you all love to hate, to produce the products you can't live without!

And yeah, we are pretty impressed with ourselves, aren't we. That's our freakin' job!

Over-reaction mode now switched off.
