and i must say i am impressed with the jetta (a gls with vr6, 5-speed and leather). if i were shopping for either, to me the choice would come down to front driver vs rear driver and the inherent characteristics of each (a matter of personal preference). as far as feel, build quality and power the jetta doesn't give up much, if anything, to the 323. for me the main thing going against the vw is the nasty blue instrument lighting. the bimmer wins in that department, hands down.
