M Coupe Depreciation (archive)

I am thinking of buying an M Coupe in the next year but am a little surprised at its pretty severe looking depreciation curve. Very low mileage (< 10k miles) 1999s can be had for about $34k in private sales.

I don't really understand this. I have never seen it get a bad magazine review, it is produced in low numbers, it is blindingly fast, has great handling, and appears to have decent reliability.

Am I missing something? Perhaps its appearance has something to do with it?
