: It rains here! This is a great chance to work on smoothness, balance and consistency.

i definitely agree that practice in the wet makes one a better/faster driver. sometimes it just gets to be too much like work and not as much fun. risky, too - just ask the guy in the 911!

also, some cars are set up in a manner that makes them difficult and unforgiving in the rain. my elise is a good example - i changed the camber settings to accommodate my 'dry' yokos, which also benefited the p-zeros in the dry. nice improvement in grip, turn-in and overall feel. unfortunately this same change made the pirellis tricky and unpredictable in the wet. i could take chances out there (not my first choice), or set up the car for conditions (too much work for a track day, especially when half the sessions are dry), or compromise the overall setup - also not something i personally choose to do. if the car is a daily driver, no problem - it would actually be stupid to have it set up for max dry performance at the expense of wet road capability. but this is my track car, and i choose to have it be its best when the track is dry. this also means that when it's wet i have to be cautious, sometimes to the point of staying away altogether. next time maybe i'll try the yokos in the rain and see how they do...

hope to see you at the BMW SIR events in july and august, and any PIR events you can make it to!
