ASC button "off" at the track, very apparent that LSD is in action. As a matter of fact, can be a bit frustrating in marginal traction conditions where the LSD aggrivates a "too loose" condition in some corners. But its advantages outweigh an occasional intrustion.

Interesting side note. After you learn to drive the car hard with the ASC "off", you will grow to hate it "on". It really does hurt the cars feel and performance. I'm considering having both the ASC and ABS crap disabled in the car altogether, neither are adding to the fun for me.

Here's a condition where the ASC can burn you: Drive hard onto a freeway on-ramp, and let's say the back end gets a little loose, and you are exceeding 50mph. What you NEED to do, is get on the gas (get some weight moved back to the rear wheels), what the ASC does is kill engine torque and apply the rear brakes, making the car even looser and aggrevating the skid (by transferring weight to the front). ASC does the absolute OPPOSITE of what is required to safely recover.

ABS in another situation: You drive hard and get totally squireled up, rear end get away from you, the big spin. What you need to do is lock all four wheels up and let the car go in the direction of inertia, and burn off speed NOW. What ABS does is keep the wheels in motion, reducing braking force. If the wheels are slipping and sliding on a loose surface, the ABS can reduce braking force dramatically. In some cases a skid is not such a bad thing, and IS the fastest way to slow down.

Anyway, I have come to feel that I want to be the one to decide when threshhold braking is appropriate and when locking the wheels up is, not some computer chip!

My rant for the week. I;ve been so good lately too... oh well.

: Any comments about rumor that many M-coupes not having LSD because of a safety concern? See link to other posts below.
