If you're not looking for lots of boost, yes. Most of these kits are in the 5-8psi range, which is pretty easy on the motor, and gives a nice power boost, something on the order of 300hp at the rear wheels. (most stock MRoaster/MCoupes dyno around 215 at the rears.) AA is the exception to this, they have 10 and 12psi kits, which seems like a bad idea at 10.5:1. I know lots of people who are running 15+psi on 9.5:1 motors, though, so it's not totally unreasonable.
However, the S52 already has a knock sensor, so if you start to get knock it will pull out some timing before you frag the motor.
: do the kits you mention include EVERYTHING (big injectors, new software, intercooler, etc), or just a basic kit (turbo, piping)?
I know Corky pretty well, the Bell kit will be complete. I can't comment on the AA kit, but the MechTech kits are pretty good as well. I don't think you'll be missing anything.
: the problem with the honda market, is that it's aimed at teenagers, so prices have to be low, and product quality reflects that.
I've watched the Miata aftermarket mature, and yes, all the Honda players were there in the beginning (Jackson, Greddy, etc.), but things have progressed well beyond that now.
: thanks for your extensive and informative reply (even if it was obviously anti-sc :)
My pleasure, I've been sitting on the sidelines of the Turbo/SC wars for a long, long time. ;)
