HRE (3 Piece)- 15X7 ~$1700.00 without tires
MSW Type 44- 16X7 ~$1200.00 with Yoko/AVS
Momo Arrow- 16X7 ~$1200.00 w/out tires
Fitti Polaris- 17X7 ~$1400.00 w/Nitto Extremes
All sets of rims eventually went thru wear/tear and got that unhappy feeling about look. I've read about examples of what to do and agree!
Depends on how much you love the stock rim. If you love it- Obviously you will find a means to keep it looking great!
From reading this I'd gather if one starts to go and they're all from the same batch in depth/color, I'd either do the whole set or replace them. It sounds like over time some may eventually wear due to brake dust/weather/contaminants/cleaners. I'd sell them. Why? Most places cannot copy that new look. I'd take the money and get new rims either stock or upgrade. It's an expensive game, but I've been thru it.
Also I've learned most damage came from neglect at tires shops/etc. Technicians would roll the rim and set it on the ground/nick it w/ an impact or hand wrench. Even w/ tape over the edge of the wrench- the wheel still managed to get nicked. I got the dull look from cleaners.
What do you do? First is find out what works best for the wheel? What does the OEM/Dealership recommmend? Secondly find out from owners if the stock pads truly dust up enough to affect the finish? Preventative maintenance and a little homework never hurts.
Lastly- the most expensive way> I showed my car, it had over $15K invested. If your car is a daily driver you could have an 'A' set- daily use and a 'B' set- show use. I find it enjoyable tending my car. Most SCCA driver's have race tires and stock rims etc. They're use to the changing of the wheels. Even if you don't race- it's inevitable you'll one day replace the rims if you keep the car.
I plan on one day going w/ the Harmann rims and upgrading the size. But for now I'll do the above: Call the dealership for recommendation of detergent. Ask most owners what has worked best on this board. Find out about the stock brake pad and altenatives: Hawk Pads?
Thanks!
