Canada is a country, that does not completely comply with the USA regulations. In general, a Canadian car should be 49 state legal, but it's not guaranteed. To get a car into the US from Canada is no different than importing one from England or Germany. NAFTA might ease some of the burden on taxation, but it does not waive EPA, NHSTA, or CAARB regulations. A car exported to the USA from Canada is an import, just like an import from Mexico, or China. Regardless of how much rationalization anyone puts on it.

: on the viperclub.org bbs which i like to check out sometimes there was guy trying to buy an RT/10 from ontario and bring it to NY or VT...and teh responses all were like..haha are you dumb?

: whats worng with bringing a car fromc anada? and why were people doing tihs to him? i didnt ask because theydall flame me for not knowing either...

: : Funny side note:

: : The Z3, Z3 Coupe, M coupe and M Roadster are built here, except for the drivetrain. While it does not classify as a tru "domestic car" it is substantially USA derved. Further, the money made from the sale of the car remains here in the form of wages, expansion of the Sartanburg facilities, vendors, etc. Only a small fraction of income ever makes it back to BMW in Germany.

: : The Camaro, however, is made in Canada! It is officially and Import! It is substantially built in Canada, except for the engine (USA), and the trans (Germany). It is no longer an American car! The majority of its generated revenue stays in Canada, with only a small fraction being returned to the USA!

: : Interesting stuff. Next time one of those Camaro "buy Americaaan Maaaahn" freaks hit you up, take a look at his car. If it's a late model (4th generation) Camaro, just laugh! Then take him in the hills and give him a lesson on just what an "American" sports car can realy do, when stacked up against a Canadian POS import poser! Just kidding, just drive away, they'd never get it anyway.

: : This global economy is really messing with the heads of those red-white-and-blue geeks! They drive an import without knowing it (Ford small pickups/Explorers, Camaros, etc.), while howling about all the imported crap which is actually domestic (BMW Z's and X5's, Hondas (cars and motorcycles), Toyotas, etc..).

: : It's getting harder and harder every year to be a legitimate boligerant moron. Most are rapidly just becomming illegitiamte boligerant morons!
