US built big blocks are a lot different that Euro engines. It was even mentioned by the engine builder of the Zippo Mustangs in the Motorola Cup that the V8's gain a lot more HP form ballancing and blueprinting than the BMW engine BECAUSE the Ford/GM/Chrysler engines have very large tolerances built in them, whereas the BMW's (and any Euro engine) have much finer tolerance and sadly can't get that "hidden" extra HP. And so just because you built V8's does NOT make you an expert on the BMW engine. And engine is NOT an engine.

And the engines you built were for drag racing, not for the street. Even a road racing engine if broken in differently because it too is made to run only for a short time. So your breaking in with dino oil for just a bit is a LOT different than breaking in a STREET BMW engine. YOUR engine is really built to run its best for a few SECONDS. A street BMW is built to run for a loooong time. And so a breakin with dino oil is correct and IMPORTANT, for the synth oil is TOO SLIPPERY to allow the engine to seal its rings and all properly. But AFTER the breakin, then the synth can be used.
