In over ten years, and five cars, I've never had a front plate, even though the law requires it here. the first thing I did when I got my M coupe, was take it off. I've been stopped a few times, but never for just that. I think it largely depends on whether you are the type of person they are "out to get" or not when you get pulled over, as to whether you'll get a ticket or not. In other words, don't be an asshole when you get pulled over -- it the worst thing you can do.
By the way, I'm a prosecutor!

First off I saw an Estoril M going down 101S in Santa Clara. Anyone?

I have this big piece of unsightly metal on the very front of my car issued by the state of California which they say they want me to keep on there, but... It looks so ugly. Does anyone know how the local cops/chp react to the plate not being on the front?

Thanks,
Pat
