Finally got a hold of a drill and got the pedals in!

Here you can see the slight gap between the gas pedal and the floor. It just mounts this way. To flush it to the floor would mean a portion of the plastic gas pedal showing on top.

But with the floor mat in, it doesn't really become an issue.
