I returned my car to the dealer last Wednesday after BMWNA said they'd look into my problems and the dealership called me to "see what they could do to help". Seems they no longer believe that I'm the only coupe owner whose rear washer has a prostate problem, they tell me that other series also have clutch pedal bushing noises, and they wanted to see about the recurrent warning light illuminations. They also wanted to look into my gearbox complaints (notchy shifting, occasional graunches). And they were somewhat upset that the car was delivered without a thorough detailing, and that no one ever contacted me afterwards to find out about my delivery experience.

They put a one-way valve (VW part, according to the mechanic)in the rear washer line. It's almost dry, now - still leaks a few drops after a half hour drive, which is much better than the former constant water-streaking. They couldn't get any error codes, so the lights remain a mystery. They feel that shifting is normal (and they may well be right, now that I put my own Mobil 1 ATF in instead of the 3/4 fill of factory stuff I got out of there). And the clutch pedal is fine for now - they replaced the bushing with another of the same composition and design, and lubed it up the wazoo, I'm sure!

They also got the two scratches out of the hood that were there on delivery, and cleaned it up properly. The mats and door panels look new, for once (the car was a "factory executive demo" - the only Z3C I found at a local dealer when I wanted one). They also discovered that the oil level sensor wasn't functioning right, so they replaced that too.

And they gave me a brand new 323 wagon as a loaner - no complaints there.

So am I satisfied? Well, they've replaced the DSC sensor under my seat, part of the sound system wiring, the oil level sensor, the clutch pedal bushing, and the CD player. They still haven't stopped the water from dripping on my rear hatch, although it's much better than it was. I've now made 6 trips to the dealer for service on the above. The gearbox is OK, but if this is the closest BMW can come to a high-class (or even a Miata's) shifter, they need new engineers.

I'm glad they're trying, but I'm sorry the product has so many flaws that they have to. It's a good thing these cars are so lovable - I still wouldn't have anything else!
