Over the last three months, a slight shimmy in the steering has manifested itself.
The steering wheel will vibrate (+/- 2mm) at speeds of 40mph and above. This vibration seems to be at its worst when the car is cold, but it lightens up when the car warms. There's no adverse affect under any type of braking (no non-ABS pulsations through the brake pedal or shuddering).
Once warmed up, I can barely feel the shimmy while cruising on the freeway, but it becomes more pronounced when taking any sweepers; subsquently (to me) the car doesn't feel as rock solid as it was/should be.
I'm thinking the rims are out of balance or maybe theres something wrong with some bushings (because of the cold-to-warm difference in feel).
I doubt the rotors are warped, as the brakes haven't been acting/reacting any differently, as well as the fact that (like Nuvolari) I seldom use them except to come to a complete stop. I'm skeptical that I'd have rotor problems after 5600 miles.
I'm taking her to the shop Monday to check this out and was also thinking about changing over to the Bosch 4+ (4 electrode) spark plugs: will a BMW dealer put these in our cars, or is there going to be an issue?
Ciao,
Nivola
