I bought the Blau Toronto from Crutchfield to replace the stock cassette head unit. Crutchfield provides a wiring harness along with it; just follow the wiring instructions and it's a piece of cake. The speaker out from the Toronto will drive the stock amp with no problem. However, I ended up replacing the amp also and went with the RCA outputs from the the Blau to the amps.

Also search archives for more installation details. Many others have used this same setup.

Good luck.

Shawn

I'm currently weighing my stereo options for my M coupe. I think I would like to do is just replace the head
unit with a Blaupunkt toronto. It blends in nicely with the stock controls and is $500 cheaper than the
factory in-dash player!!
However, since the HK amp takes a 5 volt signal from the stock head unit, how will this work? Can I just run
the Blaupunkt speaker outputs to the HK? If I somehow connect the preamps by changing from RCA to wire, will the output be strong enough? (the toronto will
provide 2.5 volt of preamp at 75 ohms)
Help me please!! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

jason

p.s. It has become very clear that BMW does NOT want its customers to be able to upgrade to non-BMW provided stereo components, since they use very non-industry standard (and very BMW-specific) methods of power and connections. To me this seems to run counter to other BMW philosophies which tend to encourage tuning and car upgrades!
