Otherwise, styling? Depends on what floats your boat. Quality? Sorry, the Honda is all Honda, not BMW, not a Porsche, Better than Miata, but that's it. However the Miata will outsell the Honda 10 to 1, and is by far the star of the value equasion in this bunch!
Honda makes a fine car, they just don't build BMW's!
But I digress. Comparing the S2000 to the M coupe? Why? The S2000 isn't a GT Sports Car, it's a roadster, rag top, convertible. Jeez! If they can include all 2 seaters as viable comparisons, then the S2000 would have to stand up against the Porsche 911, Corvette, etc... like the Coupe does. In that company the S2000 is way off the mark. Even compared to a cabrio Porsche, or a drop top Vette, or the new 3.2L Mercedes...the S2000 is still what it is... a freakin' HONDA! This isn't jap car bashing, it's just that the car sings to a different audience, one that does not listen to Bach (or other German notables). German cars have a mystique and quality all their own, you do NOT get in a Honda.
A lot of people love the S2000, and buy one over the M roadster because they like it (or Honda)better. That's how products are developed, that's how the economy works, that's the free market system. Some buy at Walmart, some at Nieman Marcus. Drawing comparisons of absolute valuation based on that subjective decision making basis is just adolescent school-yard crap. Unfortunately many people make buying decisions based solely on adolescent school-yard bench-racing crap, which is a shame.
Both the S2000 and M coupe have an honerable place in time. However, that does not necessarily mean they warrant comparisons beyond simple free-market choice making.
Besides, who here really cares what a Honda S2000 owner thinks about the coupe? Personally, I think they need to spell HONDA in reverse on the front of the car, so when we look at them in the rear-view mirror, the name will be legible. It's the least they could do.
Finally, this whole, "they said" and "oh my they bashed us" stuff, is the same garbage the Camaro and Mustang forums and newgroups are filled with. It's also what makes all those "R" boyz in their Accords, Eclipses, and Acura's turn up their lips at BMW's and others.
Until I decide to stick a diaper pin through my eyebrow, shave half my head, die the other half yellow, pull my pants down around my knees and wear dopey looking plaid shirts (like NEVER!), I will not be too concerned what any of them think of my wheels, good or bad!
BTW, don't get into a pissing match with Honda devotees. They out-number us Bimmer people by a HUGE margin! You will loose by shear magnitude of fanaticism the company has developed since invading the US market. BMW can't even dream of the volumes that company produces. That's part of the magic of BMW, exclusivity. we know what it's worth, and that should be enough, screw the rest of them!
