It was the Grand Bahama Vintage Grand Prix, 1986. Stirling (who often ran with us, as Brian Redman still does) was unhappy with the progress of the front-running proles (i.e. the rest of us). Finding no room to pass on the blacktop, and being in a great hurry for no particular reason other than that he was Stirling Moss, he pulled onto the grass and passed three of us (I was not among them) running side-by-side-by-side. And he waved as he did it! Yes, he was black-flagged. But he was pleasant and cool about it, as he's always been when hanging out with us amateurs.Brian Redman's another example of this. SVRA, Road Atlanta, 1987. Charlie Shields asks Brian if he'd like to take Charlie's original '60 Sebring Sprite out for a few laps. Brian goes out and shaves 9 SECONDS off Charlie's best time on the first lap, then cuts off another few. And Charlie was the SVRA small bore champ a few times.
YUP - IT'S THE DRIVER!
