Actually, from mechanical reliability point of view Honda and Toyota are excellent, at least equal to the Germans, maybe even better? Hard to say.
I was referring primarily to fit and finish things. BMW is way richer and more "tactilly esthetic" let's say, which is part of the value they provide.
