What about the mechanical types out there who arene't even interested in driving? They dig the machine above all, know how to make it do things FOR the driver, etc. They have just as much place in auto culture, talking shop, working on all the details, thinkin' about the nuts and bolts, how to get the car to do the dance.... The way some people make it out, these people are "over-thinking" it. Some people fantasize about being an engineer on a Formula One Team, others about driving the car...

You have just been told by THE MAN, and you just don't get it. It is great that you can wrench, and that you got all this theory (and can type), no problemo. BUT! For some time now you have been putting on airs as if you are a DRIVER - but you are not. And that is why Mark had to step in here. Though you can wrench, and have a ton of theory - it is different from the skills that you need driving the car on the track. Thus, when you come off with your posts about driving techniques, tires, pressures, etc, you are not helping those who will be doing the real driving on a track. But when this is pointed out, you now have changed your tune in mid stride and say you are now a mechanic. And that is why I keep saying that the REAL helpful information for those of us racing (track or AutoX), or soon to be, comes from Mark. Its all tried, true, and tested through time at a REAL event, not on paper. You say you have MECHANICAL experience, and I won't doubt your word, but all anyone has to do is look in the SCCA newsletters or websites, and they can see PROOF of what Mark CAN do. You bang your drum with humongous posts, but Mark is usually quiet. He is in the background, silent, while the SCCA and the rest of us bang Mark's drum for him. And whether he likes it or not, he HAS become a legend in BMW as well as in the Audi camp for his accomplishments through the years. It was while I still had my Audi that I first learned of him - taking the FASTEST TIME OF THE DAY in the RAIN at one event!!!! That was usually reserved for the Audi Quattros, but Mark blew everyone away! THAT was one of the reasons that I chose the Z3 Coupe too. I can only imagine what would happen if he got picked up by TC Kline to go REAL road racing!

Now I am not trying to start bagging on you, but when MARK has to step in and say something, you had better HEAR the message. Hell, he even has got on my case, but that was for a different reason, but I am learnig from that!
