there is such a thing as using your own head - and knowing when you don't know enough. when someone with experience is willing to give advice, definitely DO listen. but remember that what works for one driver/car/environment might not work if some factors are different. in many cases it's enough to KNOW. but ultimately it is no substitute for UNDERSTANDING. over-analyzing things (especially with insufficient data) is often worse than blindly following a recipe, particularly in the short term. but sometimes it really pays to step back from WHAT you're doing and ask WHY you're doing it - that's how breakthroughs are made. at the end of the day, a man's got to know his limitations. and those of his teachers.
